What's New?
Spring! Finally - it's starting to green up and warm up here in midcoast Maine. Amazing what a little sun does to the spirits...
The Women's Quarterly in the Kennebec Journal just came out with a nice article about some recent shows I've done collaborating with other Maine women artists - Anni Clark, Emilia Dahlin, and Marie Moreshead. Check out the online book format. I've had a great time making music with these talented friends. Here's a video clip of a promotional appearance for one of our group shows on WCSH TVs 207 program. Stay tuned for more shows in the future with this line up...
I've recently hooked up with a great organization in Boston & Philadelphia called Cradles to Crayons. This inspiring group
provides, free of charge, to low-income and homeless children from birth to pre-teen the basic essentials they need to be safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued. Every itunes download of my song Crayons will be donated to Cradles to Crayons. Here's a link to www.itunes.com/ellentipper to make it easy. Thanks for your help!
Also had a great time opening for Dar Williams at the Skowhegan Opera House in December - a huge thanks to Lou Morin at the Maine Public Broadcasting Network for a live recording of the show. Click here to listen to my opening set and to Dar's stellar set as well. You can also click here to see a video of the last song of my opening set.
Check out the calendar for a list of other upcoming live performances. You can hear samples of songs from my CD, Flanagan’s Field, and you can also hear samples, read fan comments and purchase a copy at CD Baby. one of the coolest online independent music stores out there.
Downeast Magazine writes:
"Combining the playfulness of Mary Chapin Carpenter, the quirkiness of Dar Williams, and the soul of Norah Jones, Tipper creates a sound that is at once melodic and moody, sweet and sultry. Ranging from upeat to achingly emotional, Tipper's melodies and lyrics prove her to be a varied and talented artist and reflect the myriad personal and musical inflences she has experienced in her travels around the world."
Muse’s Muse writes:
With Flanagan's Field, Maine-based pianist/singer/songwriter Ellen Tipper and her band have crafted a shimmering folk/pop hybrid. Tipper favors single notes over big chords, and this less-is-more philosophy makes the whole album sparkle. On this winning effort, Tipper sounds at times wise like Carole King and at others earnest like Sarah MacLachlan. Yet Ellen Tipper comfortably and confidently molds these influences into a style of her own."
Be well and thanks for visiting –
